Suggestion: Stop Switching Backgrounds Please

Dear developers, please revisit the idea of switching backgrounds. A lot of people already voiced their concern about this issue. (Yes, 5 is a lot. Links to the posts are below). The idea itself maybe good, but the way it's implemented right now is awful and hurtful. So please stop switching backgrounds or give us the ability to turn it off in "Settings".

This is an organized thread for all people, who find this switching background annoying, hurtful or in any other way disturbing your gaming experience. With enough people I hope we'll gain the attention of developers.

The problem is: During "Orgy Days" Events the background is changed to new one. The one which switches from one background picture to another. This switch happens every 7 seconds. Or at least supposed to happen only once in 7 seconds. For some it's just unpleasant. But for those who have migraines, eye problems or epilepsy it's more than that. It's disturbing and potentially harmful.

User-end solution: disable the background with ABP.
How?: Add the two backgrounds to the advanced filter list in ABP and reload the page:
https://hh2.hh-content.com/pictures/backgrounds/2200x/homepage_scifi.jpg
https://hh2.hh-content.com/pictures/backgrounds/2200x/homepage_xmas.jpg
(alternative: "||" in the front instead of "https://" or without it at all)

I find the background switch to be WAY TOO FAST. Changing it to every minute or so would be less distracting (and easier on the eyes, especially for people with epilepsy, migraines or any eye issue). It's a cool idea in and of itself, but at such a quick pace it is unpleasant.

I know it is, and it's a cool idea. However, as I've mentioned (and a few have supported) earlier in this thread and the other one, the current switching pace is way too fast in my humble opinion. It's very distracting when you're on the main page, and for those of us who have migraines, any eye problem or, perish the thought, epilepsy, this can be more than just unpleasant.

Could you please kindly consider toning it down to maybe alternate the background at least every minute or so, instead of what looks to be every few seconds? Thanks in advance.

And what about background animation, is there any way to stop it? It's switching non-stop and not all people are good with this flickering lights.

The only remaining problem is this switching background. It was a great idea. And looks good when you are in the main screen. But constant flickering from purple to orange is not healthy. It seems intended time interval was 7 seconds and I think it's already too short. But sometimes it switches in less than a second.

 I suspect there may be people who are physically bothered by the changing background, so a toggle to turn that of would be great, but it looks good.

The Event Orgy is great, of course.

But why do the screens change again every few seconds?

Just take a look at this drawing. This is what I see instead of the background in the game.

Wasn't there enough complaints about that last time? Obviously, during the display it is even impossible to see anything, moreover, the constant and non-stop shaking of colors just annoying, it starts to hurt my head. It's time to make a warning for epileptics when entering the game as when watching new Star Wars.

In short, had to hide all the adblock, hopefully next time guess to make a change of backgrounds once in a few minutes.

Yep, that's what my town page will continue to look like during Orgy Days, too, until Kinkoid change that annoying screen flip to a less intrusive frequency (or scrap it altogether).

Thanks, but that's what I did and it doesn't work for some reason.

I also had troubles with adding them. For me it worked without "https://" in the front or with "||" (it's a domain name anchor it seems) instead of it.
added this in the solution.

Yes, in this event we have two active old events .

 And it is very tired for the eyes to see two illustrations so followed, in addition to a white and a black being (they are very different colors and our head hurts)

 An optimal solution would be that the cartoonists put a bar between the two (half and half) and thus would not move

I would not dare to change in the APB, I do not think that the creators of the game like us to see the game halfway

 We have to complain that it goes wrong and sure they fix it shortly

Bump up, so people can easily find a solution to the problem of switching background.

This event's backgrounds for blocking are:

||hh2.hh-content.com/pictures/backgrounds/2200x/homepage_music.jpg
||hh2.hh-content.com/pictures/backgrounds/2200x/homepage_naughty.jpg
||hh2.hh-content.com/pictures/backgrounds/2200x/homepage_cave.jpg

Thanks. This is great. I'd like to find a way to add one permanent background instead, though. Just blocking all these, I do stop the stroboscopic madness, but I end up with a plain background instead (just a shading from black to the the brown/crimson color used in the leagues and the new missions tab etc.). I'm sure code-savvy people can come up with a line to apply the default home page background instead (or maybe one of the event backgrounds, as long as it doesn't blink). I'll keep trying, but I'm such a noob with code, I'll be surprised if I manage to do it myself. ^^

+1 million. But they just don't seem to care, at all.

I posted that on the event page as well. I know someone who managed to make a single background image appear instead of the blank one we get with UBO, but it requires using the Stylus-like ++ script and so on. I'm still not ready for that.

That's awesome, and I knew you came up with a script to fix this issue much more elegantly than by just blocking the 3 rotating background images. But my problem is that I only use UBO, and not the HH++ script, Stylus, something Monkey or anything like that in my browser. Is there any way I can use (or maybe adapt) this without needing to install a more robust scripting addon or plugin?

TL;DR: I'm a noob when it comes to coding, scripting or even tweaking scripts in my browser. What's the simplest way I can use your solution without having to go too deep into the scripting rabbit hole?

@DvDivXXX, I'd say installing Monkey addon is the simpliest path. It's safe and wouldn't require any additional tweaking.

Walkthrough for Chrome:

1) Install TamperMonkey addon.

2) Open dashboard

3) Click '+' to create new script.

4) Replace ALL of this text with the script posted above.

5) Save it.

I did as you suggested (though I'm using Firefox but it worked the same). It works like a charm! Thanks a ton!

@FinderKeeper Thank you for this solution!

I'm a bit saddened that this thread turned from "Kinkoid, here's the problem, please fix it" into "Here's how you can fix this problem, which Kinkoid ignores, on your own", but alas that's what we have to work with. I guess that background wasn't a problem for most of the people, so it didn't get traction.

Well to be fair, I dont really care about it since Im not on the website all day and Im mostly checking other screens, I have my own routine so if it swapped once an hour or once every 7 seconds as it is now, it doesnt really matter to me. I do however understand that this has been annoying as shit to other people, and needing yet another god damn script to make the website better and more usable (and also not cause migraines and eye strain on people) is just ridiculous. Good job KK, pat yourselves on the back!

On the plus side, thanks to our awesome community in general, and dedicated madmen like Finder, Shal and others, now that I've finally installed the script addon, my gaming experience improved tenfold. While I was at it, I also installed Finder's anti-"notification" script, and of course the famous HH++ script, because why not. My eyes thanked me first, but then they opened wide upon noticing how many little (and sometimes pretty big) things got improved tremendously thanks to players. The ridiculously annoying and unnecessary stroboscope background is gone. The ridiculous lag just to tell me what the page I'm already on already shows is gone. And a ton of useful shortcuts and summaries are in. That's amazing, and I'm really, really thankful for all of that.

On the flip side, it's quite baffling that game developers are supposedly unable to either design or implement stuff like that when players already did. Even worse yet, the devs actively added useless and detrimental shit to the game that players had to come up with workaround scripts to negate...

In any case, I'm glad. Thanks again to the few players who had to do the devs' job for us!
