Again, a (partial) farewell (but this time, not by my own will...)

All the people that already read this thread in the Bug Reporting section, already know that with the BDSM patch the game ceased to function on my old WinXP desktop PC. This means that from now on I will be practically forced to play the game on my smartphone, which, as far as I am concerned, is far from being an optimal platform to play this game with. In these last days I was able to play and post on the forum thank to the portatile I am sometimes able to borrow, but I have not always that option at my disposal. Being that with my smartphone I find incredibly hard to post both on the forum and in the club chat (they are hard to read already, I needed near half an hour to write a two line post...), the new situation will imply my resign from my club, and that I will be able to post on the forum only when I will be able to borrow again the usual portatile. This, obviously, will endure until in the future I will be finally able to upgrade my desktop system, but that could take over a year to be accomplished (unless other events come afoot, but that has only a certain probability to happen, and I still don't know how high that is).

The thing I consider almost certain is that my progress will definitely slow down. Apart the loss of the club bonuses, with my smartphone it will be ultra awkward for me to change battle teams (and form new ones when the feature will be implemented) and this means I will be practically unable to exploit features like the blessings or (if I understood the preview correctly) the upcoming elements. With the BDSM implementation I already risked to be kicked from Dicktator III in the leagues (ended 72nd) after weeks oscillating between the 16-30 and the 31-45 reward tier: IMHO when a certain number of players get carried away with the new system, my situation could get even worse, especially in Leagues (especially if the "new scoring system" will get permanent).

Despite this, until I have the possibility I will continue to play, if nothing else because I hate to stop something in which I put four years of efforts before seeing some sort of endgame. Another point is that, despite the aforementioned progress slowdown, in the hope that the cap remains unaltered I intend to continue to pursue my personal objective to reach level 500. My only hope is that the progress slowdown won't become an effective inability to play effectively with the future game implementations. But I must admit that, seeing that it seems that it became an habit for the team to leave bugs with every single new thing introduced in the game, I can't be optimist about that.

Once again, I wish to thank all the forum dwellers that treated me as a friend, respecting my different way of thinking and my gaming strategy despite the fact they didn't agree with me on those and other points. With only an exception, I won't make names, as I like to think that everyone that read these lines know if he can place himself in that list or not.

@DvDivXXX. I am glad to say that I can still put you on that list, although I don't know if the "change of pace" (if you pass me the expression) I felt in you is caused more by what I said in that famous post you deleted, by the recent behaviour of the team (I'm referring to the fact that their actions demonstrated more than once that they care very little about player QoL, to not say a huge slice of their opinions, except the ones about their implementations) or the lack of morons to nuke, but I can only say that I am happy of that change. Alas, before my "leave", I must say that about one thing that you once write, and I talk by my personal experience, you were wrong. As maybe you can imagine, I am referring to what you write a bit of time ago about reporting a moderator. Encouraged by those words, after a bit of time I opened a ticket to the team with a detailed report of my situation, and despite a tempestive and apparently positive answer from the team, after nearly six weeks there is no apparent feedback that my report had been perceived (if you're curious, I didn't ask to strip the reported of his grade, as I'm not the type for petty revenges). Given the time that has passed, I don't think that the matter will be treated further, and that means that, as far as I am concerned, personally I will continue to perceive moderators in this forum as allowed to break the forum rules with total impunity (and, even worse, create their own ad-personam rules and apply them to players).

Tomorrow i will have to return the portatile, and having had it for a longer time than usual, I suppose that it will pass a bit of time before I am able to borrow it and post here again. Until then, I give my farewell to all my friends. See ya next time, and have a good time playing HH.

We'll have to keep disagreeing on that, my friend. I know what you're referring to, and please know that we do review and, when relevant, discuss reports against moderators. In some rare instances, we even discussed such reports heavily (and by we, I mean the whole EN forum mod team, obviously our EN CM Noacc, and some of our old pals from the FR forum mod team occasionally gave some input as well). I won't discuss yours or any other in details, because this isn't a public matter, but I remember one about me in particular that lead to a pretty big debate among us. Also, by default, a report against one mod is never handled by said mod, that's one of the unwritten rules we go by.

In short, there are two persisting misconceptions that leads a minority of the forum community to judge mods very harshly and/or fail to grasp the point or the process of what we do. One is that a mod is also still a regular forum user, and most posts I or any other mod makes, unless there's a clear context that we're speaking as a mod, is just our own personal opinion. Some users keep assuming we must have our mod hat on 24/7 and speak like well-mannered robots at all times and never get personal or emotional. That's not the case at all. The other misconception is what rules actually are, what they mean, and how they interact with our role and duties as mods. You seem to operate under the incorrect assumption that there are strict written rules above us, kind of like laws IRL, and that us mods should simply obey, apply and enforce them and that's it. That's not the case. We have a written list of obvious no-nos as a shortcut for those who don't know how to behave on a forum or in public in general, to give a general idea of what's okay or not around here. That's nowhere near exhaustive, and we are not limited by them as you might assume. Context and the bigger picture are for us to see and act upon, whether or not it matches that short list, on a case by case basis. We have an overall philosophy and approach to the forum and we do what we feel is best for the community, first and foremost. Rules can change, and a lot of things cannot be handled by just checking the rules. The crucial part is that we're not above the rules as in we're super-villains who want to rule the forum for the sake of it. We rule the forum for the greater good, not for ourselves.

Anyhow, I'm sorry to hear about your technical issues and I wish you all the best IRL and in-game. Hope to chat with you again in the future. Cheers.

The three of you above me are very heavy posters here on the forum, with a post count raging from (at writing moment) 1767 to 2661 between you guys, whilst I only have a puny 732. So it's sad to see a forum regular like you go, especially since I've personally never had a quarrel or beef with you, but considering your situation with access to the game and devices, I understand why.

Hope to hear from you sooner than later, and hopefully you haven't had enough to permanently quit before you've even had a chance to come back at all.

Take care.

Yo Observer_X, have you considered Linux? You can even run it from a thumb drive if you don't want to wipe XP. Ubuntu Linux is pretty intuitive for anybody used to XP, not much of a learning curve. Use Firefox or Chrome(not Chromium) and you should be back in business. Not hard. Old farts like me can use it, I'm 60.

Even my wife likes Linux now.

Incredible. And I mean it.

Believe it or not, I am writing these words from my old desktop system.

Seems like that between today and yesterday (the last time I checked was two days ago) the game has started to function normally again on my old desktop PC.

I would like to know what is this the case: someone at Kinkoid did some questions to himself and others, or simply the whole situation was a huge bug that got fixed by chance while they were doing other things.

I should be used by now to these "back steps" from the devs, but nevertheless they still surprise me. Someone of you guys may remember how some time ago I reported disappeared graphics on Chrome that after a bit of time reappeared again (unluckily, I am still not able to login on my old Chrome version).

Now the game runs quite slow at times on Firefox, and in combats girls portraits, as other players already reported, display as squares instead of hexagons, but I was already used to the speed, and the appearance of the girls portraits for me is an insignificant detail in comparison to the most important fact: the game works again. Maybe it will be not the quickest game on my old PC, but at least it loads again.

Alas, I can't hold from asking myself a question.

A premise. In the recent Q&A the team promised a change in the base technology of the game. As I said elsewhere in the past, despite being an ex programmer, I am not acknowledged about internet programming. I can only wonder if the programmed change is something similar to the change that some video sites (like Pornhub) did to adapt themselves after the disappearance of Flash Player. Given that after that adjustment I am totally unable to load some of those sites on my old PC, I can only suppose that the situation will be the same for HH.

So the question is: how many time will pass before I will need to write a third farewell on this forum? And I fear that the answer is ""much less than what passed between the first and the second".

For now, I can only enjoy the luck I have to be back (in the hope that it will last at least for a while). But the above question, at least for now, hinders me from searching another club to join: I would feel really stupid in joining a club only to leave it after only a bit of time (apart the case in which I would find myself out of place, obviously), especially in the case of another forced exit.

@Cholly:

Obviously it was impossible for you to know without me telling this to you, but there is an old rust between me and the non-Microsoft operative systems. I refer in particular to Apple/Macintosh systems and the various versions of the UNIX heir, Linux. I will not stay here to dwell on the reasons for this, it is enough to know that my education since school has focused on Microsoft systems, and one of my worst defects is that of being a very bad self-taught person (especially for the lack of desire and time): in other words, I am the type of person who needs to personally relate to a teacher for an efficient and effective learning process. Go figure... I don't even know if at the present time Linux is free or sold at some price, and in the second case, it would be another problem, as at the present time my spare resources are still quite scarce.

Wow... I suppose that makes me worse than an old fart (and I am only 46)... 😓

Na, those sites are video based. They moved from a Flash Video Player to an HTML5 Video Player. That's not the case here. Of course, they can use some new feature that your non-updated browser doesn't have, but we're not talking about anything hi-tech here (porn sites like Pornhub are really advanced from a technological point of view. If you want to keep up with the state of the art in streaming always check what they're doing).

It's free as always. Your problem is not exactly in the OS but in the fact that the browsers have stopped supporting your system and they don't update, but that could change moving to Linux.

Observer_X, I went back to school for my degree not much younger than you. That's when I was introduced to Linux, Mac and got into depth with Microsoft, Home, Professional and Server variants. Server is the only version of a Microsoft product I would ever willingly install. I have 10 on my current laptop, but when I got my previous laptop, 8 honked me off so badly that I wiped the HD and installed Ubuntu at least 3 months before the 6 month warranty was up. I liked Windows 95, 98, 98SE, XP and 7. Current builds of Ubuntu install and operate in a manner that would be highly intuitive to an XP or 7 user. And like Kenrae said, Linux is still free. Places that charge, charge for materials(disks or thumb drives) or support. Still a lot of enthusiasts out there willing to help for free. And there are user groups consisting of misfits like me who like to meet face-to-face over coffee and donuts on occasion. Age range is huge, 18-70+(we used to have some even younger, but with COVID concerns we've had to limit it to adults)

Thank you for sharing your experience, but in my case, apart the personal resources, the main problem is the lack of time and, I don't deny it, desire. In my previous post when I mentioned the necessity to relate with a teacher, I was referring to professional courses (with all due respect for your community). Anyway, installing and learn to use some version of Linux is a thing I would take into consideration only if it would become an absolute necessity, and certainly not if it would only be useful to me to continue playing HH.

If you ever want to check, you can have a Linux distro in a USB key and start you computer from it. This way you don't need to install anything. You can search "usb linux portable" in Google.
