If a dozen people replied with a thanks, those players would get dozen more emails. You made a mistake or two, that happens. You can get a better feel for what's okay or not by lurking and reading a bit more before you post. In the case of the Gift Code Thread, there are MANY mod posts in it reminding people not to post anything other than a new code. So just take your time, and take it easy.
