Make sure you look like you are in the country the card was bought/registered in. Some cards require extra steps (registration)(I did mine online) before they can be used online. If you are using a French gift card over a VPN that exits in Nigeria to make a payment to a web site in Bulgaria no wonder the fraud protection kicks in. I am not sure why but I was getting dinged big time on the conversion. The monthly card was I think 3.99 or 2.99 a month at the time. Transaction fees and exchange rate stuff added just about 100%.
