I have a similar problem on stage 8. I can't progress - but for me the picture changed (from ¥ to rubiks cube) and I got an extra column of empty spaces. The "move one piece and move it back"-workaround does consume moves but does not complete the stage.

Took a look at my contacts today (after the maintenance) and found that I had lost over 25K kink points and is now back at 0. The contacts I had already upgraded seem to be intact at their upgraded levels so it's not a huge deal for me. But - if it can happen to me it will probably happen to someone who cares about their points.

Same thing for me, except it's the last piece of the second puzzle.
