So you would've unlocked that guy at tier 26 and then on the free path the guy turns into a different reward so you don't miss out on something for paying. I guess after you collect it the display goes back to the original one where it was the guy. If you check your harem I'm sure you'll find the guy there already but if not you'll need to contact support in game via the game menu > settings > support.
