Addition of random 1* guys

We are having more 1* guys in performance fights and pachinko. 3* guys are becoming quite rare. Is it for balancing or it is going to stay like that?

The more you'll play this game, the more you'll have 3 ⭐ guys that have legendary grade. They are by far the most "commun" guys if I can say so 😅

For the legend, they exist because it's the way the studio to test new artists that will join the design and art team and it's a reward for them as well. In my opinion soma arts are very cool but that's just a matter of personnal taste

In the game, 1 ⭐ guys can be used anywhere. After testing it just after the awakening update, they are good early game because they are cheap to upgrade and train so you can run more PoP at max rate sooner. You also unlock all the features (club, league, champion etc) faster in you farm Dark Lord and run some great Pachinko. Focus on the 3 5 ⭐ starter guys (Bunny, Red Battler and Gary) to max their affection so you have money early game. Then, along with the different monthly events, you'll get new guys that are not common, they'll have better stats and will replace 1 ⭐ guys. It means that other time, you'll no longer use them.

One exception are champions though.  1-Star guys cannot be used against champions, they're mainly intended as starting "filler" to increase the number of guys in the game and thanks to their cheap upgrade costs they're decent early money sources giving 1.200 cash roughly every 90 minutes.

As Zamioc Yuki already pointed out though, if they're leveled up somewhat they're also great to use in Places of Power to provide additional manpower to run multiple of the PoPs at once.

The more PoPs that can be run at maximum (7 hours) the bigger your overall prize pool and resource income will be.

The 1-star guys are not really the best for PvP but they also don't have any actual decisive disadvantage. Once your harem starts to grow and you get green (rare), yellow (epic) and purple (legendary) guys in more quantity the 1-stars will eventually probably become pure extra money givers, but it doesn't hurt in anyway to have them.
