Not leveling girls - am I hurting myself and if so how?

A few weeks ago, my ("top 7") lineup included a girl who after seeing her in the battling images, I realized she was so unattractive to me that I wanted to stop levelling her in an attempt to not see her anymore (yes, I picked what I considered the best pose (she was max affection so I have them all).

For todays contest, I was levelling some girls and realized while searching there were others that fell into this category.

I realize that not leveling girls hurts my possible rotations in champions.  And were I max with all other girls, I am missing a small bit of ego from my harem level that I could get from levelling these ones (I am far from that but it is a possible hurt).
I also realize that there may be blessing rotations these girls might be useful (e.g. the "top 7" was a 5 star legendary (though the others I saw weren't)).
Finally, assuming the girl isn't level 1 it's investment lost (e.g. I could have put the XP into someone else).

Now forum, I welcome any (preferably non-mean) judgement on your end.  Is my thought process folly?  Are there any other ways I am hurting myself?  If so, are they?

(I recognize this is opinion and I welcome it even if I disagree; even though I welcome judgement ask in advance you not judge others for their opinions - everyone plays differently.  My intent is also not to bash speific girls or general artists, so I intentionally did not mention any specifics :))

You must tell us WHICH girls you don't find attractive so we can agree with you or (still better) strongly disagree and start a forum war with you (joking here).

After that bit of humour, my opinion is: you can play the way you like, but if you have them upgraded and they are blessed, just use them that week, so you feel as in real life with pretty and ugly girls together, the comparison makes the good ones more attractive.

About the resources spent in those girls, it is unavoidable, with time you will have many girls partially upgraded, and in champions when you have one thousand girls there are many at level 1 so a few more don't matter.

Ultimately the game is about having  fun, so I think it's fine to ignore a few girls because you don't like them.

If there's a girl who's one of my strongest for that week but I don't like any of her poses, I usually just stash her at the end of my team so I don't have to see her as often.

Maxing out blessed girls might be expensive in the beginning but you can only max out a girl once so eventually you will notice that you will have some cheaper more chill weeks in the long run rule of thumb dual hair or dual eys girls are more likely to get blessed so those are always a good investment in the long run😉

A few things.

1. You essentially can't "unsee" a girl to keep her from showing up in champion team selection if she would normally possibly show up there.

2. If the girls in question are 3* or lower it will not really hurt you to not level them very much. However, if they are 5* or especially 6* it will hurt you.  This hurt is mostly from needing the girls when blessed, as I'm also guessing that there are enough for you to level up for contests.

I'd argue you can do what you like, but if you decide to not level up 5* and 6* girls that you find less attractive, I'd say that it's going to hurt more than it helps. I realize this is a porn game where one can fantasize about only being with highly attractive partners, but the reality is that you have to weigh that fantasy versus being able to do well in the game.

Another thing to consider: some L5 girls have a lower probability to end up in Top 7 each week, and even when they do, they may be evenly matched with many other girls. In that case, it won't hurt you much (in terms of efficiency) if you skip these girls. For example, there are so many girls with Blond hair and Blue or Green eyes that you can pretty much ignore one or two of them and still not notice a difference in pvp (Technically, you might still miss some double-blessing combinations, as double-blessings have less overlap than single-blessing, but this is still a pretty rare occurrence; maybe once or twice a year for any specific girl if you're unlucky. Just go for a cheap league when/if it happens and you'll be fine 😛 You'll earn less Kobans in that league, but you'll also spend less resources on that specific girl, so... It's not too bad)

My two cents:

a. You practically can't level up ALL of the girls to level 750, unless you'll pour lots of real money into the game, and knowing your casual play, you won't do this. So you won't have alk the girls at max. level anyway.

b. Getting your 5* and 6* girls to the highest level is recommended, but I don't know if the top players have ALL of theirs at maximum stars and levels too.

3 stars girls - you can basically ignore, unless it's an Epic or Rare girl that you really love, they can be handy when there's a blessing for Rare or for Epic girls.

As some wrote above me, there are so many 5* legendary girls, that ignoring some of them with common traits such as eye colour won't hurt you.

I'm looking forward to our next time together on D3 😃

Getting your 5* and 6* girls to the highest level is recommended, but I don't know if the top players have ALL of theirs at maximum stars and levels too.

So there are three potential bottlenecks here:

  • For Gifts, it costs 85k for a 5* legendary and 437k for a 6* mythic
  • For Books, it costs 530k for a 5* legendary and 1.43M for a 6* mythic
  • For Gems, it costs 7520 for a 5* legendary and 9400 for a 6* mythic

Presuming an average of five 5* legendaries released in a month (Boss Bang, Legendary Contests, and League Girls are once per month on a schedule, while other events and releases happen irregularly but there are almost certainly going to be some on any given month) that means you're looking 425k affection, 2.65M GXP, and 37.6k gems to max out an average month's worth of 5* releases.

My long-term average gem income has been about 39k gems per month, and while I haven't tracked my book income precisely it's been around 2.8M per month. As we can see, there is just enough book and gem income to keep up with the new 5* releases with a little bit of headroom, but not enough to actually make any progress on a backlog. If you're picking up any mythics whatsoever, your backlog is only going to grow. So by and large it is not possible for a free player to keep up with all the 5* releases. Mythics are only released once per month, and all of those numbers are easily doable in under a month, though obviously it makes keeping up with your 5* girls a hopeless task.

I can't really speak for affection as a bottleneck, as it's really not a bottleneck for me. I have millions in reserve and honestly don't even pay attention when I get them as a reward so if I tried to tally it up I'd probably miss a major income source.

So looping back to the original question, the answer is that you aren't going to be able to afford to keep your girls at a high level. It may feel like that might be a possibility as a low-level player, but as you get more gems and your battle team reaches higher levels it gets more and more expensive for a new girl to catch up. As a result, you have to pick and choose who is going to get those books and gems. And there's nothing wrong with making attractiveness of the girl one of your criteria.
