The "no shards" situartion was true for the MDR pattern after 12 month too. That we gain 2 MDRs is nothing that surprised me - it was the only thing KK could do without breaking the "Mythics are only avalaible in Mythic specific events" rule if they don't want to let the older Mythics be dead capital to them. The issue is more, that they abandoned the 12 month after rule and started with a fully new pattern (and that with forgetting Level Up Red).

Nevertheless, they should consider to raise the available shards in MDR, because most of the time they are gone in less than 5 minutes, very often it takes even just 2 minutes.

In normal MD this is also the case in the early phase, but it gets longer at the second day, and may not even completely deplete on the third day.
At the end most of the times there are quite a lot left, so everone who really wants the girl, can get her with enough kobans spend for refills.

But that is not the case in MDR, there you often have to consider using x10 or x50, to be quick enough before shards are empty again.
